SegmentStream vs Supabase

Supabase gives you a dedicated Postgres database with sign-in, storage, functions and realtime to build a product on. SegmentStream gives your company a database that already knows its rules: records, actions, roles and history, open to your apps, your team’s AI tools and the company agent. Already on Supabase? Connect the project and bring its tables in.

  • Choose Supabase when

You are building a product for your own customers, such as a SaaS or a mobile app, and want to work with Postgres directly, writing row level security yourself.

  • Choose SegmentStream when

You are building your company’s own system: records with rules and actions, roles, a history of every change, access for your team’s AI tools, integrations and a warehouse, without writing permission policies in SQL.

  • Use both when

Your customer-facing product stays on Supabase. SegmentStream reads its tables through the Supabase connection, so sales, finance and the company agent see the same customers.

How they differ

What Supabase is built for, and what SegmentStream is built for

Supabase is a development platform around Postgres: a dedicated database, built-in authentication, storage, Edge Functions, realtime and an AI toolkit. It is a strong choice when you want the database itself and will design the tables and the row level security policies.

SegmentStream models the company rather than the tables. You declare the records your business has, the actions that change them and the roles allowed to take each action; the platform enforces them for every app, API key and agent, and keeps a history of every change.

Because access is checked by the platform for every record, a new app or agent inherits the same rules the day it is deployed, along with sign-in, hosting, integrations and a company agent.

Inside SegmentStream

A company database with the rules built in.

Entities, relationships, actions and roles, deployed from code and checked on every deploy.

cloud.segmentstream.com
The console's ontology map focused on Contract, with the key fields and actions of Document, Contract line, Opening balance, Sales invoice and Client, every relationship named. Beside it, the deployed ontology: 136 entities, 327 relationships, 395 authored actions and 27 roles, and the checks every deploy passes
Our own company database as deployed: well over a hundred entities, every relationship named, and the checks every deploy passes.
Using both

SegmentStream and Supabase together

The Supabase connection reads the tables and views exposed to a project’s Data API, from pipelines and from actions. Keep your product on Supabase and bring its customers and orders into the company’s own system, where sales, finance and the company agent work with them.

Questions

Is SegmentStream a Supabase alternative?

For a company’s internal software, yes: it includes the database, sign-in, roles, hosting, integrations and a company agent. For the backend of a product you sell, Supabase is built for that, and the two work together through the Supabase connection.

Can I bring data over from Supabase?

Yes. Connect the project with a secret key, and pipelines or actions read its tables and views through Supabase’s Data API.

Do I write row level security policies on SegmentStream?

No. You give each role the actions it may take and the records it may see; the platform checks them for people, API keys and agents alike.
